Running into poets, the kiss-withdraw gesture we all use now, the reading had to to with John Giorno & was at a record store on 2nd St just west of 2nd Ave, I'm fuzzy on the details, Anselm read, charmingly, works of Ted, one of the poets Giorno recorded, & David Henderson read a song Sun Ra recorded. "Write songs, you just need one & you're all set." Anne Waldman next but I was done in by close calls. The Brooklyn subway shooter was caught today & we watched from a bench on 5th St, across from the 9th precinct, while the brass prepared for the spotlight.

Talking about running into poets. I lived in San Francisco for a number of years (1965-1973) and I used to see Bob Kaufmann quite often in a famous North Beach watering hole which is across the street from City Lights Bookstore. Once after applying for a job at the old Purple Onion I stepped out onto the street and Alan Ginsburg was passing by and I, with an unaccustomed boldness, hailed him and he was gracious enough to stop while I fumbled some 23 year old "I like your poems". And, two degrees of separation, my ex-wife met Gregory Corso's wife in a shop she was working in! Ha, ha! big deal!

remind me to tell you a story about Corso, who lived for a while in the same building as a friend of mine.

Corso just seemed like the prototype of a poet and a free person. His poem "Marriage" is one of my absolute favorites as I'm sure it is of a lot of other people. However, I know he struggled early in his life and undoubtedly there were other problems in the Earthly grind that I know nothing off. Very neat that he was a neighbor! I hope a good one! :)

Oh, my mistake! It was your friend's building where Corso lived.
