I'll stop this series soon, I suppose, but I'm having such a good time writing about all the encounters that make a hot summer in New York City a pleasure.
I assumed that if I sat on a bench on Second Avenue & St Mark's Place, someone I knew would come by.
First, Stu, who lives in the block where the buildings came down in that terrible explosion a year ago. Then Karen & the girls, who were hurrying to a movie but stopped long enough for hugs, to make a plan to hang out the next day, & to meet my friend Liz, who recommended some books her slightly older kids had liked. Then Stu's wife & teenage daughter, wearing a styling hat.
Then it was too hot & I went home.
