I've always wondered about this; i.e. artistic obscurity (I think that's what he means). As an artist or poet one becomes sort of an 'accessory' to other people's lives (and there are some who have become a 'brand') what happens to the mind or self that once longed to reach the world through their creative narrative?

One of my great "poetic" fascinations is that of Rimbaud, who, according to more than one account, stopped writing at the age of 19! Double wow for him! Maybe he sensed that he was emerging out of 'obscurity' and into the bright glare of the impoverishment of fame?

Rimbaud was a rather weasely character, I believe. Maybe poetry didn't give him enough scope for the derangement of his senses.
